The first conference dedicated to young African scientists in Europe

What?

YASE 2018 is the first conference dedicated to young African scientists in Europe. It will bring together 250 doctoral students and post-doctoral scientists working throughout Europe. Panels and talks will enable them to learn from African leading researchers, business representatives in Africa and academic leaders, about the opportunities to carry on their high-level scientific career in Africa. They will also be able to talk freely with the speakers, especially during a special networking reception.

When?

The conference will take place on July 6th 2018, just before the European Science Open Forum 2018, the largest interdisciplinary scientific meeting in Europe, which will take place from July 9th to July 14th, 2018.

Where?

Toulouse is the capital of the Occitanie region. It is a major academic and industrial center. The region has 233,000 students and 29,400 researchers working in high-level laboratories. They have many links with industrial companies. With 3.7% of its GDP devoted to research and development, the region exceeds the objectives of the European Union. It has many remarkable scientific sites such as the Pic du Midi observatory, Moulis theoretical and experimental ecology station and the Odeillo-Font Romeu solar furnace.

Who?

YASE 2018 is an initiative of the online media Afriscitech, supported by the Institut de recherche pour le Développement and the Université fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées.

Why?

YASE 2018 will provide access to information, present initiatives and foster networking so that young African scientists in Europe are better aware of opportunities to participate in the scientific and technological advancement of Africa. Special consideration will be given to young female African researchers.

How?

The Scientific Committee, chaired by Adolée Glitho, Dean of the Faculty of Science of Lomé, Togo, a member of the Scientific Council of the Agence universitaire de la francophonie and Kwame Nkrumah Prize, will ensure the quality of the program and the speakers.

The local organizing committee is chaired by Eric Crubézy, Professor at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse.
